I made an appointment for the GP at North Avenue Cambuslang because I had been feeling my mood was very variable: low at times, tearful, short tempered and had also been gaining weight. I have always been overweight but fairly stable - but in the past few months had gained over a stone.
The GP listened to my concerns, and asked me what I thought was happening to me. I felt the mood swings were related to being menopausal but was also concerned about my general health.
The GP checked my bloods and asked me to revisit in two weeks. I did - my bloods were OK but I still felt "not myself".
After some discussion I agreed to be commenced on an anti-depressant and was referred to a weight management programme at the Victoria Infirmary.
The whole approach from the GP was supportive, non-judgmental, respectful and encouraging, and now, six months later, I am feeling so much better. It was a huge deal for me to raise these concerns with the GP, but I am so glad I found the space and time and attitude to me which really helped.
"Supportive and encouraging GP"
