"Contact tracing good"

About: Public Health Agency / Contact Tracing

(as a service user),

Tested positive with PCR after testing negative with LFT (both taken Within 30mins of each other)

When contacted by contact tracer I explained this, their words regarding the LFT were, they are useless.

I would tend to agree.

So many people I know had same experiences. What a waste of time and money, money which could have been better spent on real health issues.

Hi ‘Themediaisthevurus’

Thanks for leaving your feedback. I’m sorry if you were told that Lateral Flow Tests are ineffective. There is research published on the PHA website regarding the effectiveness of LFT’s. These tests are one tool used in the prevention of Covid transmission, that can be easily self-administered outside of lab conditions.

But as your experience has been, they do not always diagnose the infection, especially at lower levels in the body. For this reason the current advice is to have a PCR test if you are experiencing symptoms of covid and your LFT is negative.

I’m glad the Contact Tracing team was able to reach you following your positive PCR result. And I hope you were offered useful advice on managing your infection. I also hope you made a quick recovery.

best wishes

Jane
