"Telephone call to ward 9"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Gastroenterology

(as a relative),

Due to the current covid numbers no visiting is allowed in ward 9. The only contact I had with the ward was by telephone to find out any up dates regarding my relative. Most occasions it was over 30mins before the telephone was answered however on Sunday I tried to call and it took 2 hours before the telephone was answered the line was not busy just continuously ringing out. This is not acceptable when no visiting is allowed as it is the only form of contact some worried relatives have.

Dear Skyhd44

I am sorry to hear about that you were unable to get through to Ward 9. Our wards are very busy but it is still important that relatives can contact the ward, especially when you are unable to visit the ward.

During these restrictions, we want our patients and families to keep in touch. Therefore, we have a person Centred Virtual Visiting Service. All wards have iPads specially set up to allow 'virtual visits' (video call) allowing patients to see and talk to the people who matter to them using FaceTime, Skype or Zoom. For more information please go to: https://www.nhsggc.scot/hospitals-services/visiting-hospital/person-centred-virtual-visiting/

If you would like to arrange a video call you can complete this form: https://forms.office.com/Pages/ResponsePage.aspx?id=veDvEDCgykuAnLXmdF5JmmENTIEVjYJLvSv3cugDYZ1UM09TMTRKV00zWjROSlU1V0E0RkFYU0paQSQlQCN0PWcu

In the meantime, I will raise this with the Ward Staff.

Regards

John
