"Felt very relaxed"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / 3 South Craigavon Area Hospital / Emergency Department Northern Ireland Ambulance Service

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I've been in Craigavon hospital for two weeks, I was admitted through the emergency department after an ambulance came to collect me from my home. The ambulance took around 45 minutes to come, although the paramedic staff were a great help.

Once arrived to ED the place was very crowded, the staff looked as if they were under a lot of pressure due to the amount of patients.

Once I got onto 3 south I felt a bit more settled as I was away from the emergency department and brought into a more relaxed part of the hospital. The staff on the ward are great. The food has been okay, I found myself eating out of the shop more as the food can be quite sickening.

Dear Emmgh49

Thank you for taking the time to share you recent experience with us. I am sincerely sorry for the delay in the ambulance response time. In recognition of the need to improve our response to people, work is progressing within NIAS to try to ensure we provide a timely response, appropriate care and treatment.

In order to improve our response times, we are working closely with the Department of Health and the Health and Social Care Board to increase our available resources. We are also working with local EDs to try to ensure that our patients can be handed over to hospital clinical teams as quickly as possible so that ambulances are able to respond to further emergencies.

It was reassuring to hear of the professionalism and level of care provided by the paramedic. I wish you well with your recovery.

Best wishes

Neil

I am sorry you were disappointed with the food choices I have passed your comments to the Catering Team. Patient menus are reviewed regularly and feedback is taken into consideration as part of the review process. Patient menu options are agreed with the Dieticians to ensure portion sizes are appropriate in terms of nutritional values. If patients have any specific requirements they should discuss with Nursing.
