A day in October 2020 is a date that I will never forget. It was morning and I as usual was at work feeling a little unwell, so I went home.
The next thing was being taken to GWH Swindon in an ambulance and after various tests, was taken to Churchill Hospital Oxford whereupon my treatment was commenced immediately being taken to theatre to have tubes inserted into my groin to cleanse my blood which had become toxic having not passed water for 6 days. The protein and creatinine levels in my blood were off the scale. Didn't rate my chances much!
Next came a day in dialysis followed by procedures to insert tubes into my urinary pipe between kidneys and bladder to help me pee. The reason for the tube was because of a blockage in urinary pipe. This being the cause of my pain for which I had taken too many Ibuprofen tablets which caused the kidneys to fail.
After 10 days of treatment and care which was outstanding, I walked out of the hospital fully fit and very, very grateful. My stents are changed every 6 months under general anaesthetic.
I am back at work and living a full life at 70 years old. I fully intend to find those wonderful staff in urology and hug them all and just say thank you.
"Outstanding care for kidney failure"
