"They could not do enough for me as a first time mum"

About: Daisy Hill Hospital / Daisy Paediatric Ward Daisy Hill Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a staff member posting for a carer/relative),

I came into Accident and Emergency Monday Evening with my newborn baby daughter. I had to wait outside for an hour and was lucky it was dry but still quite cold.

I was seen quickly after I was taken in. The Daisy Ward it is great.

The nurses are great, especially Shauna and Sarah. They could not do enough for me as a first time mum. The Daisy Ward is fresh and lovely, it does not feel like part of the hospital. The privacy is great, having a room and an en suite. It feels like a home away from home.

The only thing I would change is the being in by myself I would like company or even the chance to go outside for air. The way in which parents do not get offered meals is not great as I have not had a proper meal since entering the hospital, it would not be suitable if we were in for a few more days.

Dear Shagq75 I am sorry to hear of your wait outside ED but very pleased to hear that you were seen quickly one you got in and admitted to the ward. The staff are very supportive and I am glad that they are looking after you and that the facilities meet your needs.

Unfortunately only one parent can be present at any time due to infection control restrictions which I understand is not ideal, but is a requirement we are obligated to adhere to.

If you would like to leave the ward to go for a walk or get some food you could discuss with your named nurse who would be only too happy to discuss options with you.

Th nurses will be delighted to read your kind words which will be shared with them.

Thank you for taking time to share your experience with us.

Regards

Bernie

Hello Shaqq75

Firstly, congratulations on the birth of your new baby daughter.

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us, it is very much appreciated to understand what works well and what can be improved.

I am delighted to hear that you had such a positive experience on Daisy Ward and Shauna, Sarah and the wider team will be very pleased to hear they made such a difference to your experience.

The current visiting policy and food restrictions are challenging for parents and carers and we do appreciate this is not easy nor does it sit comfortably with staff. Unfortunately due to the pandemic, staff need to follow infection control guidance at this time. I do understand how difficult it is however, and thank you for your patience and kindness.

I hope your daughter is improving and I wish you all the best.

Kind regards,

Jodie
