My wife slipped and fell down five or six steps in our house.
For 24 hours we monitored her ankles but eventually went into A and E at the Royal Alexandria Hospital in Paisley. After triage she eventually had her ankles x-rayed and we were told that she had a broken left ankle and a severely bruised and chipped right ankle.
Throughout the treatment she was helped by nurse practitioner Michelle who exemplified the care we anticipate from the NHS. She fully explained my wife's situation, showed us the x-rays and gave us our options. She was caring yet efficient in her explanation and sought help from the physiotherapists before she would allow us to go home as we have a dozen steps in the house and a further seven outside.
She was concerned that if my wife could not deal with the stairs then our options were limited. Fortunately she was able to ascend and descend the stairs so we were allowed to go home but only after the nurse practitioner gave us several words of advice.
The whole treatment took approximately four hours and it would be easy to criticise the time taken. However when one looks at the care, triage, x-rays, physio involvement and explanations given us I have to say I was extremely pleased by our experience.
Too seldom is praise given but I am happy to state that our care was good and I have no complaints about any aspect of it.
Many thanks to a hospital which is often, unfairly I suspect, castigated for its treatment.
I am happy to put our satisfaction on record.
"I was extremely pleased by our experience."
