"The staff have all been lovely"

About: Craigavon Area Hospital / Orthopaedics Northern Ireland Ambulance Service

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

I came to Craigavon Hospital 8 days ago with a fractured foot. I rang an ambulance and waited 10 hours before I took it upon myself to phone one of my relatives to bring me to hospital, I then waited another while in Daisy Hill hospital before being transported to Craigavon via ambulance.

Since I have been here I have been very comfortable with everything, my room, staff, and bed. The staff have all been lovely to me and I feel like I can approach them at any time with any problems I may have. I appreciate that they are always busy but always seem to find the time for everyone, not just me. The food has been lovely, with a wide variety, all of which seems to be great. The ward and facilities is spotless with cleaners working very hard to keep the ward safe.

Dear Decde74

Thank you for taking the time to share you recent experience with us. I am sincerely sorry for the delay in the ambulance response time following your fracture. In recognition of the need to improve the response to people, work is progressing within NIAS to try to ensure we provide a timely response, appropriate care and treatment.

In order to improve our response times, we are working closely with the Department of Health and the Health and Social Care Board to increase our available resources. We are also working with local Emergency Departments to try to ensure that our patients can be handed over to hospital clinical teams as quickly as possible so that ambulances are able to respond to further emergencies.

It was reassuring however to also hear of the professionalism and level of care provided by the staff in both Craigavon and Daisy Hill hospitals.

I wish you the best with your recovery.

Best wishes

Neil
