"Brilliant continuity of care"

About: Lorn & Islands Hospital / Maternity care Maternity care / Labour suite maternity

(as the patient),

I had a really positive experience with my second pregnancy and the care I received through Oban Maternity unit. What particularly stood out was that I had the same midwife, Eva, throughout the pregnancy. Eva came over to the island where we live multiple times and I was also able to see her at all my Oban appointments. It was great to be able to develop a relationship and I felt really listened to and that Eva really understood what I wanted in birth and what was important to us.

Though we hoped to go into labour naturally and have the baby in Oban, I was induced at 41+5 and therefore had to be in Paisley for the birth. The midwives, midwife care assistants and auxiliaries on the ward there are all very friendly and kind. However there was a lot of waiting around for a room on labour ward and obviously very busy staff team so there were frustrations at times. I can’t fault the caring nature of the midwives and assistants on the ward though as they continued to do their best to make us feel comfortable.

Postnatally in Oban we had great visits from Ruth, Rosie and Eva. I have just felt throughout that the team have been knowledgeable, honest, friendly and have made us feel very comfortable. TheyI had a lot of issues with breastfeeding with my first baby and with the guidance of these midwives I have had such a different start with my second baby - no pain at all!

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to the Oban Maternity Unit for the care they’ve provided.

Dear Lilyloch94

Congratulations on the birth of your baby.

Thank you so much for taking the time to write about your experience.

Lovely to hear how much you valued the support you received from midwives in Oban.

I will make sure that the midwives are made aware of your very positive feedback which I am sure they will be delighted to receive.

Wishing you and your family the very best for the future.

Kindest regards

Fiona Campbell
