I recently attended the Surgical unit at Grantham Hospital where I was in the care of several people over my two nights, three day stay after having surgery on my left knee and I say left knee as I’m also a right leg below the knee amputee.
As you can maybe imagine I was very anxious about my knee surgery as I really do need my left knee as strong and healthy as I can due to the missing left leg but anyway this isn’t about myself it’s about the care I received whilst in the care of the surgical unit.
Firstly it was like a breath of fresh air staying in your unit. I had a little room of my own so for me an unfortunate serial visitor to many different hospitals over the last ten years but this one was by far the best hospital stay I have ever experienced.
I will start with the lovely lady Jane I think she was called right through to the driver of the non emergency ambulance that took me home.
Each person that had anything to do with my stay whether it was changing my water jug or just adjusting the blinds, taking my obs or whatever their roll was, everyone did a fantastic job. They were polite, well turned out as my granny used to say but most of all, everyone showed empathy towards me and believe you me I have had some terribly awful even sad times within some of the hospitals I’ve had to stay in. This was a great experience. I said to Jill, one of my nurses that it had been a pleasure to stay in your hospital.
So a big massive well done from myself to every single person I had contact with in the surgical unit at Grantham and thank you all for doing what you did for me and I wish you all the very best for the future.
Lots of love from side room 8, also know as the cold room but only the people on the unit will get the comment about the cold.
Take care all of you and hopefully I’ll not see you soon hahahahahahahaha
