"Rude and unprofessional nurse "

About: Royal Oldham Hospital

I had bloods taken in early pregnancy unit for Hcg levels the waiting for results is 1 hour. However I was told that it could take 12 hours for a doctor to call me with blood results ?

When I said I’d attended 2 days before and waited for results to be printed for me I was told that it wasn’t possible even thought just 2 days ago that happened. I had bloods taken at 10 in the morning and I rang at 1 pm told doctors not reviewed yet then again at 5 pm still not been reviewed. The nurse was extremely rude saying I need to just wait and if I was having a miscarriage nothing could be done. When I said I would go to hospital and sit and wait to get results she told me that I could if I wanted to but she would not rush and I was being awkward. I explained that I was concerned for my unborn baby due to bleeding and she told me well I can’t do anything for you. I now feel so let down that a 1 hour blood result test could take 12 hours to even get a call with results what is already a stressful situation in now make me feel so upset and let down by the staff. The other appointments at GAU have been fantastic and this one nurse who is very rude is making me dread calling or attending appointments there at Oldham hospital.

Thank you for your comments which were sent to the Gynaecology team for a response.

The team first wanted to say they take all feedback seriously and appreciate the time you took to leave this review.

The Lead Nurse for Gynaecology across the Northern Care Alliance was so sorry to hear that your experience fell short of the standards they try to maintain in their Gynaecology Assessment Unit.

She appreciated this must have been a very worrying time and is sorry that the behaviour of the nurse didn’t make anything easier for you.

The Lead Nurse will be sharing your experience and feedback with the nursing and support team, highlighting what an incredibly stressful experience it is to attend hospital during early pregnancy for bleeding, pain or anything else which means the pregnancy may be at risk.

She will also feed this back to the nurse and ensure that she is aware of the impact her behaviour had on you.

Should you remain dissatisfied and wish to discuss your experience further, please contact the Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) at your earliest opportunity on telephone 0161 778 5665 or email pals@nca.nhs.uk quoting that you have been advised to do so via NHS Website, and they will do their best to address your concerns.

Kind Regards

The Patient Experience Team
