My father had a sudden collapse at home followed by a generalised seizure lasting 3-4 minutes. After the seizure had finished he had a prolonged period of unconscious but had started to recover an hour later when the ambulance took him to ED.
We were called an hour later and asked to collect him and bring him home. This was a complete surprise and so I asked to speak to the doctor when we arrived.
The doctor entered the room accompanied by a charge nurse and proceeded to tell us that blood tests showed there had been no seizure and my father was fit to go home. When we described what had happened and I explained that my father had a prolonged period of unconsciousness not usual with a simple faint, this was brushed aside and completely ignored.
All I wanted was to be listened to, for my concerns to be acknowledged but all I got in return was hostility and complete dismissal of my version of events. The nurse during this time said nothing and looked at their feet- where has the care and compassion gone? What happened to understanding when people are upset and managing them accordingly with kindness?
The nurse returned with a wheelchair and I asked, in tears, where is the care and compassion? They just said they weren't getting involved and walked away.
Beyond disappointed with this experience.
"Lack of kindness"
