My 7 year old daughter with additional support needs and disabilities required a bedtime MRI and had such a great experience because of the radiographer (James) and HCA (Amanda).
My daughter was understandably a little nervous when attending but both James and Amanda spoke gently to her and showed her the room and scanner and talked through what would happen. She became distressed prior to the procedure and I was encouraged to help her settle with no rush. Both James and Amanda came in a couple of times to check on us and to assure both of us that there were options available to us and not to feel pressured. My daughter was a superstar and agreed to proceed with a full head and spine MRI. Amanda totally took on board my concerns that if my daughter became distressed whilst in the MRI scanner she would not understand that I as her mum could not get her out immediately. Due to this Amanda discussed with James if it would be possible for her to stay in the room with us and be at the foot of the machine to help get my daughter out (this wasn't needed thankfully!) Both James and Amanda are a credit to NHS Tayside and the Radiology Department and kept both the patient and anxious mum calm and informed. The bravery certificate and stickers were an added bonus too!
