"Admission for pain management"

About: Aberdeen Health and Care Village / GMED Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Acute Medical Initial Assessment Aberdeen Royal Infirmary / Acute Short Stay Medicine NHS 24 / NHS 24 (111 service)

(as the patient),

I was admitted to AMIA via gmeds for pain management

I have recently been diagnosed with cancer and my headaches had gotten out of control -  I contacted nhs24 and after an hour on hold was put on to a lovely call handler named Emily who was extremely helpful.   I was then reviewed at home by GP Scott from gmeds who I could not fault! He went above and beyond to ensure I was admitted for medication review.

On my arrival to AMIA I was very well looked after by Luke and Lesley from the nursing team - they made sure I felt at ease.

ANP Dawn and Dr Mahmood were very thorough when examining me and made sure my pain was being managed.

During the night I was transferred to ward 103 and I can not fault any of the staff there - I am now discharged home and feeing much better about things - my pain is now better although not completely gone - I can cope with it

I would like to thank all the staff who looked after me throughout my journey in ARI.  A special thanks to Melissa, Joel, Hannah, Jordan, Nicola and Dr Weir.

Dear Gratefulpatient57

Thanks for sharing your experience on Care Opinion. I'm very sorry to learn of your cancer diagnosis.

I'm also sorry to learn of the headaches you have been experiencing. I'm pleased to see however that this is now more manageable and I hope this continues.

How kind of you, with everything else that's going on, to take the time to thank the staff involved in your care. All, without exception, sound as though they provided you with care which was tailored to your needs. I'm really impressed that you have been able to quote the names of the staff you came into contact with. I'm sure all will be delighted to see your complimentary feedback.

I would like to offer an apology for the wait time to access NHS 24. I appreciate this would not have been a good experience when you were seeking help. There are times unfortunately when callers do need to wait longer than we would like, however please be assured that we are working hard in this regard.

I would like to be able to share your complimentary feedback with Emily from NHS 24, therefore if you would be kind enough to contact me with some additional detail then I would be able to do this. You can contact me on 07814 299944 or by email at Patient.Experience@nhs24.scot.nhs.uk

I would also like to speak with you about arranging for some detail to be added to your NHS 24 electronic call record which would inform our clinical staff about your diagnosis. This may assist in alerting our clinical staff to your current health status should you need to contact us again. I can talk you through how we can help with this.

Thanks again for taking the time to get in touch. I hope to hear from you further.

Take care meantime

Shona
