"Kindness and care for me and my son"

About: Causeway Hospital / Accident & Emergency Causeway Hospital / Medical 1

(as a parent/guardian),

My son who has Down's Syndrome, a permanent trachy and respiratory failure, was admitted to casualty one morning recently. He had low sats and difficulty breathing. He stayed in the dept until later the next day when he was admitted to Medical One, where he was treated for three days and then discharged home.

I want to compliment the staff in every department on their kindness and care for both of us during this time. They worked under tremendous pressure but had time to care for him and his needs. From the moment I rang Dal Doc, to the arrival of the ambulance staff, I was reassured that he was getting the best care possible.

I was allowed to be with him during this time and I was treated with respect and the understanding of the fact I know my son best.

Susan1960

Sorry to hear your son had a recent visit to Causeway Emergency Department, and a subsequent stay in hospital. However, I am glad to learn that he did not need to stay too long, and he is now at home again.

I am sure as your son's carer, you do not have a lot of spare time, therefore we really appreciate you posting your feedback on Care Opinion.

I am pleased you found our staff were compassionate, caring and kind, and ensured a positive patient journey and experience for both yourself and your son.

Thank you again for your feedback, and I will ensure it is shared with the Emergency Department Team.

Kind Regards

Natalie McLaughlin

Hi Susan

thank you so much for posting this feedback on your son's care in Medical 1. I know Sister Larkin and her staff will be delighted to read it. However busy and pressured the system becomes, it is really heartening to know that staff continued to care for your son and yourself as individuals. Staff strive to provide an excellent service, and the core values of honesty, compassion and working together are so important in achieving this. This is the essence of the NHS. I hope we do not have to meet yourself or your son again for a long time, but rest assured your kind words will stay with us for some time.

Thank you for taking the time to post them

Mark
