"Great treatment from Belfast Trust Staff"

About: Adult Community Services / Adult Community District Nursing Teams Belfast City Hospital / Oncology Belfast City Hospital / Radiotherapy Belfast City Hospital / Thoracic Surgery

(as a service user),

I had to have spinal surgery followed by radiotherapy. The radiotherapy made me incredibly nauseated and feeling sore and ill, the staff in the radiotherapy centre were amazing. From the consultant who sets the tone of services through to the staff in the pods.

One of the cancer nurse specialists I had contact with was amazing and really went the extra mile- from getting me a bed to lie on while awaiting tests, to explaining things over and over again until I got them and her patience in supporting both my husband and I.
Unfortunately in had to have an antiemetic pump erected late at night following radiotherapy. The district nursing team that came out that night and every day thereafter were punctual, polite, professional and demonstrated a high level of care. This made me feel valued and reassured by their care.
The team went beyond my expectations by ensuring there were enough medications for the following days and when required followed up scripts with out of hours /Gp so I would not be left without the continuous medication.

Dear BCC56,

I am sorry to hear you have been through some challenges with regards to you health post surgery and radiotherapy treatment.

I am pleased to hear however that the aftercare you experienced was positive for yourself and your husband, from a range of teams and professions across the service - the Radiotherapy Centre, Cancer Nurse Specialist and the District Nursing Team both during the day and Out of Hours. It is heart warming to know that the District Nursing Teams were able to anticipate medications and follow up scripts on your return home throughout the 24 hour period. This is a great example of a seamless service with everyone working together.

I would like to express my sincere thanks for taking the time to share your experience. I will pass on your kind words to the staff, they are always grateful to hear what they do makes a difference and to feel appreciated.

I hope you make good progress in your recovery in the weeks ahead.

Kind Regards and Best Wishes
