I have been attending my local doctors from November, as I had a numbness in my arm, pins and needles in my fingers and a lot of mucus build up. They initially thought it was just a build up in the lungs and then an infection. However, one morning I woke up and couldn't move... I could barely breathe. I somehow managed to get my phone and ring 999. Upon coming into hospital, they took some spinal fluid and ran other tests and confirmed I had a rare condition that was life-threatening... so life-threatening that I was on the verge of death that night. I was then put to sleep and on a ventilator for a few weeks, whilst trying to take it off temporarily now and again to stimulate my brain and see if I could breathe on my own. Due to the damage to my nerve endings, my body fully relied on the ventilator to breathe. I eventually was taken off the machine and obviously couldn't remember a thing from the past two weeks. I am now a few weeks down the line and learning to adapt to my ''new normal''. The staff have been absolutely fantastic, so motivating and reassuring. However, they are so understaffed and overworked-through no fault of their own. I am looking forward to getting home and getting some rehabilitation. It is a miracle that I am alive.
