I attended a consultant led clinic in Omagh with Dr McKinney at 29+5 days pregnant... things were not all well. I was admitted to Enniskillen, initially arriving in foetal assessment where I was taken straight away to a bed BP and bloods sent, absolutely no delays with getting to the ward or getting initial investigations completed. The midwife and nurse that dealt with me were amazing and highly professional. Midwife was also taking time to explain everything to me but also teaching her student at the same time. I was taken to my room by the lovely student and the fear had definitely settled.
I was greeted in the ward by a lovely staff member called Heather with a smiling face and lovely way with her attending to my food needs. Which was so needed I was starving.
My lovely midwife was Caroline whom explained everything to me and even tho I am a nurse I am a worried expectant mum first and this is how she explained things to me. I had 2 maybe 3 lovely student nurses attend to me asking all the right questions and being caring and highly professional.
I had a doctor come to admit me another caring staff member who had just quickly came off nights and now was on long shifts of days and this was 7/8 pm late into a long shift. She was so friendly, answered only the questions she knew how to answer and stated she would find out anything she couldn't clarify with me which I appreciated so much however turned out she didn't even have to do this she had the answers herself. By the time she left the room I nearly felt like I made a friend and even with a mask I knew she was smiling throughout the admission process. Very reassuring and makes you feel less alone espc with ongoing Covid restrictions.
I had many doctors and nurses visit next on the list was the consultant covering that ward for the day sorry so bad with names along with his reg who I had seen 2 weeks prior at Omagh clinic and she is the one whom initially started to worry about BP but it was just not as super high as it was yesterday. So it was nice to see a face I'd seen before plus she remembered me and a few funny things happened while I was at the appt 2 weeks previous she was able to recall without prompting remarkable really with the amount of faces she would see. This is where I was given the diagnosis of pre eclampsia and informed about all the risks and unknowns ahead. He was also extremely professional and reassuring and I didn't flinch about recieving this info alone due to this. Both doctors worked well together and on leaving I felt extremely well informed.
Night shift nurse Loretta did not stop she was so lovely, professional with a high level of professional knowledge but also knew my hobbies and likes and spoke to me regarding football and my 2 other babies which was so nice... While still doing every step and task she needed to make sure my unborn baby and I were safe. And need I mention delivery babies fo other women aswell.
Morning time came and the first knock was the lovely Caroline and then heather whom I have previously mentioned. Friendly faces from the day before arriving on-time and ready t ok go on another long shift after a few hours sleep and lots of snow on the road.
Now I am waiting for more information but I just wanted to highlight the amazing care I have received from Omagh clinic and midwife's and doctors there to Enniskillen absolutely everyone I have met. Not 1 bad word to say.
My 1st baby was born in Australia in a private hospital which I paid alot of money for however the service I have received at home for this toot far exceeds the level of care I received in Australia. I am so much better informed, relaxed and less anxious.
I wish to extend massive thanks to all the staff. So lucky to have this hospital but I'm thinking this is my last baby. 😂
