"Trouble accessing doctors appointments"

About: Accident & Emergency / Phone First Causeway Hospital / Accident & Emergency Portrush Medical Centre

(as the patient),

When you ring the doctor surgery Portrush. You are say 5 in the queue.. you speak with reception who ask in detail the problems and then you are asked to ring back at given time or day to speak to a doctor. However the receptionist  is the advisor and you don't get to speak to a doctor and the receptionist suggests go to A&E.

A&E extremely busy. Been here 2 hours and on the advise of a&e receptionist it could be 4 or 5 hours at least. This is not a good service. The doctors seem to have hidden since the pandemic. I believe the NHS is being run into the ground. Less staffing, less pay, less service. We pay for the nhs. Its not free... And I feel we are being forced into running the system down so badly that people are pressured into going privately.

I am the Assistant Clinical Services Manager of the Emergency Department in Causeway.

I can only apologise that you unfortunately had to wait longer than we would expect. As you have alluded to, ED is busy with increased attendances and very sick patients, who require enhanced medical and nursing care.

The Covid-19 pandemic has brought a number of challenges for health care. Again I apologise the service was not to the standard we would want to deliver to our patients.
