"Could parents be offered food?"

About: Daisy Hill Hospital / Daisy Paediatric Ward Daisy Hill Hospital / Emergency Department

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

Went through a&e first and we were seen to very fast, all the staff were lovely and we were taken straight to the ward. Alana and Orla were both very attentive.

Only issues I have is that the parents don't get fed and then as you are only allowed 1 parent in the ward it is difficult to get out to get something to eat. It would also help if the playroom was open as it is difficult to keep the children entertained all the time.

Dear daisy ward, thank you for taking time to share your experience with us. I am glad your experience of ED and journey to the ward was very swift. Orla and Alana will be pleased to read your comments and I am glad they were very attentive to you.

In relation to the food for parents: unfortunately this situation does not sit comfortably with staff however due to the pandemic and associated restrictions we are not in a position to provide parents with food on the ward. Hopefully in time the restrictions will ease but in the meantime the staff must adhere to the guidance in place.

The play room is available on a risk assessed basis on the ward. If however your child is requiring isolation then unfortunately they cannot access this area. I appreciate it is a long day to try and keep children occupied and unfortunately our play specialist is off at present.

I am sorry that we cannot resolve these issues for you at this time but I do appreciate your feedback and hope that as restrictions are eased these issues will gradually be sorted out.

I hope your child continues to improve.

Regards

Bernie
