I attended Daisyhill Hospital in November for an early pregnancy scan, which confirmed that I was experiencing a missed miscarriage. I was given a follow up appointment for the following week. When I attended this appointment, the consultant did not have my notes from the previous appointment. As a result, when I was scanned, they thought they were delivering new information to me. I had to say, this was a follow-up and I was already aware that I was miscarrying.
It was arranged for my D&C to happen a few days later. However, when I presented to the ward that morning, again no file was available. So I had to again go through my recent medical history. The file did eventually arrive to the ward, which was useful, I left hospital that day with a follow up appointment for the end of January.
I attended this appointment, on time, but it an hour before I was seen. The staff said there must have been a mistake when the appointment was made, as they don’t start that early. Again, my file wasn’t available for my appointment, which meant I had to go through a lot of personal and emotional information, to ensure that I was giving the key information they needed to carry out the additional screening bloods.
I want to emphasize that at every point, every member of staff treated me with the utmost care and sensitivity and that I was in no way mistreated by the face-to-face staff.
However, I wanted to make someone aware of this issue, as it is was very difficult to deal with a miscarriage, without having to relay the information about recurring miscarriages to different people, at each step of the process. Also, it would be remiss of me to accept this poor administration, as I would hope it is not happening to anyone else.
"My file was not available to the professional"
