I have been treated by the GI team at the Western General for 23 years. (Since I was diagnosed with Crohn’s Disease)
I have had five major surgeries there and have been admitted more times than I can remember I was initially treated in ward 27 many years ago which wasn’t great but ALL the staff always did their best.
The new ward is in a new building on the hospital grounds which thankfully I haven’t had to book into for a long term stay yet.
Some of the staff, nurses and doctors are still there from when I was first admitted all those years ago and always remember me even if I haven’t been to the clinic for a long time. I initially lived in Edinburgh but due to work I had to move 80 miles away and was devastated when I thought I would have to change hospital. But the Consultant said if I was willing to travel they would keep me on, I was delighted. Sometimes I’ve driven 2hrs there and 2 hours home just for a 10 minute checkup but I really don’t mind.
The point of this post is to say thank you to all the Staff at the WGH who have treated me over many years. They have always been professional, polite and excellent at their jobs. Because I can be a bit of a challenge at times. The more you are admitted to hospital the more you dislike being there, but the doctors and nurses have alway PUT UP with me at those times and always did and still do a fantastic job.
I just want to thank them for the great care they have provided over the years and continue to do so.
The bad news for them is, as long as I can drive I’ll keep coming back.
Thank you.
