I injured my right knee a couple of weeks ago, banged a toolbox against it but didn’t the much of it at the time. My knee then became very swollen and painful, when I woke up the next day I was in extreme pain and couldn’t walk without a stick so I went straight to Crosshouse Hospital A&E first thing.
After seeing the swelling and lack of movement I had two X-rays. I was told afterwards that I had loose bodies in my knee and that’s why it was so painful, swollen and was locking. I was then told I would have to be seen again by the specialist knee clinic and given an appointment letter. I didn’t look at it until I got home expecting it to be the next day or two. The appointment was 9 days later and was a telephone appointment to ask if I was still in pain!
I lasted a day and had to call the hospital explaining I live on my own was in extreme pain and couldn’t walk, they were very good and saw me the next day. But after seeing another doctor I was told I would need an emergency MRI and surgery to remove the loose bodies. I had already explained that strong painkillers weren’t working, I was on my own, have Crohn’s disease, fibromyalgia was on an immune suppressant and had a couple of other complications.
That was 8 days ago and I’m still waiting for the emergency MRI.
Nothing else has changed, I’m still on my own still have all the same conditions above and still can’t get about. Going to the toilet is the hardest thing to do and because of my Crohn’s something I have to do a lot. I’m also waking several times during the night with pain and have to rely on others for prescriptions and shopping.
Can anyone tell me how much longer the Emergency MRI and treatment will be as I’m getting desperate?
