"Time wasted"

About: Altnagelvin Area Hospital / Podiatry

(as the patient),

I attended a joint podiatry-orthotics clinic at Altnagelvin Hospital, Derry on . The footwear I was to be fitted with was not to hand, leading to a waste of time for the podiatrist, orthotist and myself. This was not the first problem I have had with the service. I have written to the service, suggesting it be reviewed and changed.

I felt dismay, disappointment and anger.

encourage people to share their experiences of health and social care, what matters to you, what you particularly liked or disliked so that we can share with the relevant department, and staff .

Hello Halfafoot

The Orthotics Service has recently been allocated to me to manage. There are many issues regards access for care and there have been for some time. The Public Health Agency (PHA) are conducting a regional review of Orthotic services to try to address issues regarding resources and workforce to try and improve patient care.

We are working with the private provider to address deficits and have received some funding for extra clinics this year. In addition the service has been hit very badly due to staff absence. Other Trust staff have been redeployed and temporary staff engaged, to help with this but we know it will take some time for us to stabilize things. In addition we have bid for extra funding for the next financial year to address this services issues. I am very sorry that you did not have the service you deserved.

Regards

Cathy Glass
