Mum had had two falls in one day and appeared to be having hysterical episodes & her mobility had reduced drastically from the day before. We had a call from the falls team who had helped Mum up and advised us to call NHS 24, which we did. They advised that a doctor would attend.
The doctor came but felt a more in depth assessment was needed + the hospital at home team came a while later. In the meantime we had a terrible time trying to get Mum to the stair lift and from there to the toilet. She kept having hysterics, not being able to move and screaming & crying - it was awful. The team arrived just as we were trying to get mum back to her chair in the living room - it was good that they saw exactly what was happening and he home circumstances. They did all the tests and arranged for mum to go into hospital the next morning - I stayed overnight - I got very little sleep.
When Mum came home the discharge to assess team supported her until she was able to manage dressing, toileting + preparing food herself. She still has support in the morning, and exercises to do so that she manages the zimmer + rollator better. I couldn't have managed with out them but must admit to feeling anxious when they will leave us to it - there's no training to be a carer and no one asks you if you can actually do it.
"Couldn't manage without them"
