"Long waiting time"

About: Musgrove Park Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

I arrived at Musgrove Hospital in Taunton in early February 2022 at 16:30 with a bubbling sensation over my heart and chest area with pain that followed.  I was seen to by a nurse, had blood taken and general checks.   I was told to keep waiting in the waiting room several times for several hours at a time.

I then got seen to again for an X-ray of my chest, and was then once again told to wait in the waiting room. It got to 23:00 where I just got up and left because the waiting time was an absolute joke.

Dear KPRichards

I am sorry that you experienced long waiting in the emergency department. This is something that we don't want for our patients but we are unfortunately seeing unprecedented attendances and due to this we have to risk assess patients using a priority scoring systems. I am very happy for you to email me your details and can I look into your notes to see what happened. The waiting room is a small part of the department and this can at time seems quiet but in fact behind the scenes in the resuscitation area and majors area this is never quiet. I know this doesn't help you, but if you can give me more details the date you attended your name and DOB I can look into this further.

My email is karen.tyler@somersetft.nhs.uk
