"Support for my friend"

About: Parent Support Link

(as a friend),

My friend was a heavy drug user and I felt in some way that I had to be the one to support him and help him out as he didn't have anyone else. I took this on and to be honest it was way too much. I could not fix him and it became such a struggle. I felt like I was his parent and I was constantly focusing on how I could help and make him better.

I finally reached out to PSL and I am so glad I did. I was supported, given helpful information which I could share with my friend and I was able to learn about boundaries and looking after myself which I had not been doing. Yes, I still see and support my friend but in a healthy way, it is not consuming my lifestyle anymore which has been a godsend. I think if I had carried on I would have just burnt out so massive thank you to PSL and how they have helped me.

Hi lacertayw44,

Thank you for sharing your feedback with us it is very much appreciated.

We are really glad you reached out to us here at PSL and are pleased to hear this has benefited you and that you are able to support your friend while taking care of yourself, which is so important. Remember if you are burnt out you are no good to anyone including yourself so always make sure you have time out and think about your needs as well.

We wish you all the best, take care and keep safe and keep accessing the charity as long as you need to.
