"Outpatient appointment"

About: University Hospital Monklands / Oral Surgery & Medicine University Hospital Monklands / Outpatients Department

(as a relative),

I am writing regarding my mother who had an appointment to discuss her biopsy results.

On arriving she was informed that she would need to have biopsy redone.

The previous biopsy she had, they frozen her cheek then a small cut done by scalpel a sample taken which was slightly uncomfortable but without discomfort or distress.

However, this time in oral and maxillofacial surgery, the doctor proceeded to take a large syringe and push into the tender swollen part of her face without any of the above preparation being done,which caused my mother of 75 great pain and distress.

The doctor stopped then said that local anaesthetic should be used, This was then given but my mother was in a terrible state by this point.

My sister asked why this was not done before the procedure started but NONE of the staff answered her.

I feel that my mother didn't need to suffer the pain and extreme distress and could have been avoided.

She was so bad that she couldn't even walk through the hospital and had to be let out the side door where it took 2 of us to support her to the car.

I am sorry to hear that the treatment your mum received whilst attending University Hospital Monklands left your mum distressed and anxious.

I hope that we can resolve this for you quickly and efficiently.
