I saw the consultant about a hip replacement yesterday after waiting for 10 months. They talked like an express train. I had questions which I wasn't given a chance to ask. They listed all the things that could go wrong and kill me plus I could catch Covid whilst in hospital. They didn't say one positive thing about the op or ask how being in constant pain has affected me physically and mentally.
Apparently I will get no aftercare despite living on my own with no family nearby. I have waited 8 and a half years since my first diagnosis and was advised that there is a 2 year waiting list. They appeared totally indifferent and without a shred of compassion. I got home completely demoralised and left without hope. I'm still upset today and so low I just stayed in bed. I am 75 and I want my life back before I die. I live in constant pain and can't do much.
This consultant has destroyed my determination to keep going and now I don't care any more. What has happened to our NHS that we followed the rules to protect? Where are they when we need them?
