"My daughter's birth"

About: Aberdeen Maternity Hospital / Obstetrics (Maternity care)

(as the patient),

I was booked for an elective section at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital and had a brilliant experience. I was extremely anxious due to having to be put to sleep during a previous emergency section however the whole theatre team, especially the anesthetists, done a fantastic job of reassuring me and keeping me calm the whole time until my daughter was born. Despite all my worries it was an amazing experience and we are so grateful to everyone who played a part in this.

After the birth we were taken to Summerfield ward where we ended up having an extended stay due to some complications; firstly with my daughter and then with myself. It was a very stressful time for my husband and I, especially with being so far away from home (Elgin) and with another young child to be cared for too, however we really can't fault the care we received from every single member of staff we encountered over the 9 days we were there. The ward was clearly very busy and the staff were rushed off their feet but any time I had to press the buzzer it was answered in good time and nothing was ever too much trouble for anyone.

I would like to give a particular mention to Midwives Hannah and Tracy who really went that extra mile for us when I was finding things really tough. I imagine it was 'just another day at the office' for them but their care and compassion had a huge impact at a time I really needed it and their kindness will never be forgotten.

Thank you very much again to everyone at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital for such a positive experience!

Dear ES2020

Many congratulations on the birth of your daughter. Thank you for taking the time to get in touch and share your experience. The Theatre and Summerfield ward teams will be delighted to receive this feedback. I will ensure this is shared with them all, and especially to the Anaesthetists and midwives Hannah and Tracy, who you have given a special mention.

Sorry to read both you and your daughter had complications and required to stay in longer. This is very difficult and especially when you have another child and are far away from home In Elgin. However it is lovely to hear that staff attended to you and with compassion, care and kindness.

Maternity services have recently experienced a busy time and it is reassuring to hear that the care provided helped you and your family. Thank you for your feedback.

Wishing you much happiness

Rachael MacDonald

Midwifery Manager
