My optician noticed that I was developing cataracts. I was referred to Moorfields Eye Hospital, where I was examined and eventually given a date for surgery to my right eye. I was impressed by the thoroughness of Moorfields' procedure. The surgery was successful, as has been the post-operative care, and the eventual surgery on the left eye was similarly efficient and successful.
The one unsatisfactory aspect of my experience was when following the many tests I and four other patients were sat in a room for and hour and 25 minutes, unattended and not knowing what was to happen next. It transpired that the surgery itself was next, but none of us knew that. As it was my first experience of eye surgery, I became more and more anxious during this lengthy wait. It would have helped if we had been told what we were waiting for, and how long the wait was likely to be. There was no lengthy wait for the second cataract surgery.
