I was referred from my GP with severe abdominal pain to Ward B5 (AKA Emergency Surgical Hub) for triage and onwards. While it took some time for the admissions process to be completed and due to a busy period much of my wait was by necessity in the corridor, the initial triage and imaging were completed very quickly. I was on B5 overnight before being moved to B4 in the evening for two further nights.
The level of care from the nursing staff was nothing short of exemplary. Despite being incredibly busy and the 4-bed-room I was staying in on each ward having a challenging patient the nursing staff were very friendly, their care seemed totally genuine and nothing was too much trouble for anyone.
I have a significant fear of needles that all ward staff were very good indeed with, as well as the radiographer running my CT scan who needed to adjust my IV to inject contrast dye.
My consultant on the day of my discharge took me through my whole CT scan simply because I was curious, explaining pertinent bodyparts that the image showed, and explaining the condition diagnosed and what parts of the scan lead him to that conclusion
"Superb care from B5 and B4 wards"
