"Emergency department"

About: Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance University Hospital Hairmyres / Emergency Department

(as a carer),

My father was taken to the emergency department in Hairmyers by ambulance and I feel the staff deserve medals, from beginning to end everyone was amazing. Thank you for allowing me to be there as he has dementia and was very disorientated.

I could see how very busy staff were but all still friendly, caring and couldn't do enough. My dad was made comfortable and his pain was under control promptly with morphine given by his nurse. She frequently checked in on him in between him going for xray and a CT scan, even gave him a sandwich which seems so small but was greatly appreciated given that he had not ate all day.  The kindness shown will not be forgotten, he is now back home and being looked after by family with a follow up arranged.

Dear Moz101

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. I'm sorry to read that your dad was unwell but pleased to hear that he had a positive experience whilst in our care. I do hope you felt that being with your dad helped to lessen his anxiety while he was receiving treatment. It must have been a very distressing for him. As you say, it's often the small things which make a difference. I will be delighted to pass on your praise to the staff in our Emergency Department and hope this finds your dad feeling better at home with his family.

Kind Regards
Carol

Dear Moz101

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback here on CareOpinion. I am so sorry to read that your father required the use of our services and that of the wider NHS, I do hope that he is making a good recovery and feeling better. This must have been a worrying time for you all and I am glad that you were able to be there with him.

I am really pleased to read the lovely comments about the staff that looked after him and I would be happy to pass these onto the crew and their manager. In order to do this I would just need some more details. If you would like for this to happen can I ask you to email the date, time and location that the ambulance attended your father and his name. This can be sent to sas.feedback@nhs.scot. I would also be very grateful if you could make reference to your CareOpinion username so that the team can easily link your email to this story.

Thanks again and I wish you and your father all the very best.

Kind Regards

Alan
