"I felt cornered"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / General Surgery (wards 64, 65, 66,& 67)

(as the patient),

I felt coerced into taking a PCR test to get surgery via general anaesthetic otherwise it would be local anaesthetic in a very sensitive area. Multiple staff members were brought in to convince me, and one brought up how they would do this for their family - I feel this was intended to make me feel guilty. I felt cornered and was in tears. I eventually caved because I felt like I had no choice. A healthy person forced to take a fallible test which has returned a multitude of false positives, just to get surgery? They have a duty of care and I feel this was abused. In my opinion, utterly ridiculous and irresponsible.

Dear Sovereign7,

I am sorry that when attending for your procedure, the pre-procedure process was something that made you feel uncomfortable. We do have screening processes in place to ensure the safety of our patients and staff however I am sorry you felt pressurised by the manner in which the screening process or alternative to anaesthetic were explained to you.

I trust you are now recovering from the procedure.

Best wishes

John Carson
