"My husband's aggressive prostate cancer"

About: North Devon District Hospital / Urology

(as a relative),

Initially we were let down by our doctors. No one wanted to examine him, they just kept saying water infection until I demanded an examination, and the hospital doctor let us let us down by not being on the ball.

If I hadn’t pushed for my husband and written a letter of my concerns to the consultant at that point we may well be in a completely different situation now.

Having said that, luckily my concerns were acknowledged by two amazing specialist nurses Tracy and Cath at North Devon district hospital, who did all they could to speed everything along.

My husband was finally diagnosed with an extremely aggressive prostate cancer, but luckily scans showed it hadn’t migrated to the bones. From this point his treatment was first class, he underwent brachytherapy and radiotherapy to hopefully cure him.

We are now having 3 monthly PSA checks and he continues to be on hormones until 2023. The cancer seems to be drastically reduced, and we are lucky enough to know we can speak to Tracy or Cath at any time.

Dear orangezz33

Many thanks for taking the time and trouble to leave your feedback. I am so sorry that your husband's diagnosis of prostate cancer was initially delayed and you felt let down. However, I am pleased that when he was finally referred to NDDH his investigations and treatment were expedited by our wonderful Clinical Nurse Specialists in Urology, Cath and Tracey. I am, however, pleased to know that your husband's prostate cancer has not metastasised to his bones and his treatment has improved his symptoms. As you know our nurses can be contacted directly on 01271 311881 during working hours and if not immediately available, if you leave a message, will always endeavour to get back to you as soon as possible.

May I take this opportunity to wish your husband well with his future care and treatment at NDDH.

Kind regards

Paula
