"Lack of communication for a vulnerable patient"

About: Highbury Hospital / Cassidy Ward (136 Suite) Highbury Hospital / The Willows

(as a relative),

Hello,

I have spoke with numerous staff about a patient at Highbury. He was initially in Cassidy ward and now is in The Willows ward. Staff are not helpful as I have vital information to pass on and no one is taking it.

In this instance the hospital is being negligent as they are not following the mental health act. The nearest relative has not been contacted during assessment. The staff cannot distinguish between next of kin and nearest relative. If staff looking after mental health patients do understand the act. Then this is extremely worrying. The ward has not given us the correct documentation.

Furthermore the lack of communication with the family is extremely distressing. It is clear that the staff is acting negligently and will lead to the wrong decision made in regards to the patient.

I am very disappointed and distressed during this process and cannot get in touch with anyone to help.

Dear Reticulumyk76

I am very sorry to hear that you have had problems in communicating to staff over the last few days.

Patient's families offer a wealth of information about their loved one, professionals also value the support and information that families can provide and help us to understand the person as an individual and how they are when they are well.

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback, particularly as this is a challenging time for you and your family.

It is difficult to comment on individual cases, however, I am happy for you to contact me to discuss further and offer you some support

Kind regards

Alison Harrison Service manager
