"Staff went above and beyond to care for me"

About: Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / Intensive Care Unit Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / Renal (Nephrology)

(as the patient),

I tested positive for Covid 19 in October 2019.  I isolated and then had annual leave for a total of three weeks, I felt perfectly fine.  Suddenly I developed a pain at the back of my neck and within minutes my whole body was wracked with pain.  I felt awful, a couple more symptoms appeared which made me realise something wasn't right.

My husband called 111 and an ambulance was sent within ten minutes.  I was brought into hospital and admitted to Dumfries and Galloway Hospital.  I was very seriously ill.  On admission the staff who cared for me were absolute angels.  There was issues with my health they could not get to the bottom of despite having every test imaginable.  Due to Covid restrictions my family were not allowed to visit.

Dr Jones not only kept me up to date but also took the time to call my husband and sister, which to this day they still cannot believe how caring everyone was. The staff in ICU, I believe are a truly special bunch of individuals and who, in times of immense stress never let their standards drop. Without each and everyone of them I doubt I would be here today.   I would personally like to thank the following people who are still involved in my after care.

Dr Jones,  Sister Marie, Leslie my renal nurse who kept me sane during kidney dialysis, Mel, my nurse in ICU. Elaine in Psychology, and Pauline. staff nurse in ward C4, who kept in touch with me throughout my absence.

I will be eternally grateful to the staff in Dumfries and Galloway Royal Infirmary who truly went above and beyond to care for me.  Without their care I honestly think I would have had a very different outcome.

Dear RIAG87

Thank you so much for taking the time to share your lovely feedback with us. I am delighted to hear that you had such a positive experience of care, particularly at such a worrying time. Our teams work extremely hard to provide high quality care for each and every one of their patients, and I know that they will be delighted to hear that they have had such positive comments from you following your admission.

I will ensure that all of the teams and individuals mentioned are made aware of your kind words, which I know will make their day.

I hope that you are now well on the way to recovery, and are feeling better.

Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience

Kind regards

Alexis
