"Amazing two weeks"

About: CGL Birmingham

(as a service user),

My experience of CGL for a 2 week alcohol abuse dettox was an experience of a lifetime, and a bloody great one. I am a 63 year old woman lost in a world of drink + far too much of it just slowly but surely killing myself. I had heard of CGL but always thought of it as "not for me" all them silly lectures + meetings no thanks! How wrong was I O.M.G. There is a massive big up + shout out for all you guys, from reception to nurses, key workers + volunteers. These 2 weeks here + this 2 weeks of dettox will stay in my mind + heart till the end of my days. Thank You + bless you to.

Karen, Ellie, Una, Sarah, Sherrari, Charlotte, Sue, Dave, Caroline.

P.S Please get a fridge + microwave in basement for staff + workers! xx

Dear venushn95

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback with us.

I'm Lydia, part of the team who listens and responds to people's feedback.

As I read your story I really appreciated your honesty about the way you viewed our service and support, prior to accessing our detox programme. We regularly meet people who share the same view as you did, and believe that they are not going to learn anything from the support that is on offer. All too often they are not prepared to give things a try.

But I'm so glad that you were able to get past those feelings of doubt and engage in our detox support, as it sounds like you have really benefitted from it. This is great to know and I hope other people who may be having the same kind of initial feelings, read your story and take some encouragement from your experience.

I will make sure that all of the staff and volunteers who you mentioned in your feedback, get to read your kind words, so that they can take a little time to reflect on the impact their support has had on you as an individual. I'm sure they will feel very proud to have been part of your story of recovery.

Thank you for the feedback you have left about some of the facilities that are not available in the area where we provide our detox support. This has been passed onto our South Hub's Service Manager, who will explore whether we may be able to act on your feedback. I will keep you updated on Care Opinion about progress.

Venushn95, thank you again for getting in touch with us and sharing your feedback, we really appreciate it.

Stay strong and above all else, proud of your achievements as none of your progress would have been possible if you hadn't have showed up with determination and a willingness to change!

Best wishes,

Lydia

Dear venushn95

I hope all has been well since you left your feedback four months ago and that your recovery continues to go from strength to strength!

I'm getting back in touch with you to let you know that your feedback about improving the facilities in our South Hub group room, has been listened to and acted upon.

As a result we now have a fridge and microwave, for both our staff and the people who access our service to use. Here is a little message from one of the staff members who regularly works in the group room and is part of our group programme team:

"Thank you for making your suggestion as the fridge and microwave have made such a difference! We are now able to store food and drink in the fridge and if people who are accessing our support want to bring food in from home, they have a microwave to heat it.

We are also able to provide cold fresh milk for tea and coffee, and overall it contributes to making people's experience in the hub a more comfortable and relaxing one, as they have to worry less about access to refreshments and food.

Thanks again!"

I'm really glad that you took some time out to share your feedback via Care Opinion, as it really has helped us to identify a gap and add something positive to our facilities!

Thank you again and take care,

Lydia

Ps...I've attached a picture so you can see them for yourself (sorry if the picture is not the right way up, I couldn't seem to get it to post any other way)!
