I had my appointment here today after having to go on the cancellations list and although the consultation I had was great, I still feel no further forward.
At the age of 3 I had quite a nasty fall which resulted in my cartilage being dislodged and sitting on the side of my nose rather than centre, meaning my septum was deviated. At 33/34 I had a septiplasty at another hospital which was a failure due to the nose going back to memory and not the repair. For as long as I can remember I haven’t and cannot breathe through my nose, blow my nose etc. I’ve been in pain now for almost a year, suffering chronic sinus infections etc. I was told 3/4 years ago and told I did need another op that would include plastics coming in also and will completely rectify the damage caused at 3 years old which I explained to the hospital, but I really feel I’m not further forward. I’ve had bloods taken, a camera up nose, we’ve established I have allergies something I’ve been aware of since I was 12 when I started to also complain of not being able to breathe. My nose bleeds but goes down the back of throat and doesn’t run out and I feel I have constant phlegm in my chest due to nasal dripping. I pray I don’t get colds etc as that’s just another obstacle for someone who can’t breathe through there nose. I have been referred for a ct scan, and prescribed amitryptiline and some nasal sprays but I’ve left feeling a little let down.
I was also told the consultant I saw most recently wasn’t who I should have seen, but they were busy on another case which I understand but I can’t breathe, walking is becoming a nightmare. I’m in constant pain, I’ve no timescale on how long I need to wait to be seen again, when the op will likely happen also. And considering being able to breathe is an essential to staying alive I’m not really sure what I do now!
