"Staff were very nice but very busy"

About: Gilbert Bain Hospital / Ward 1 (surgical)

(as the patient),

Admission was haphazard although the staff were very nice but very busy. I saw a consultant mr Macfarlane, when I came to the ward but I needed more time to ask questions. The staff on ward were friendly and helpful but once again very busy.

I would have liked more information about what I can or shouldn't do once home for the first few days, and information regarding my follow up appointment is rather vague with no number to ring if I need assurance as I live alone.

I would like to have been offered more information on diet or an appointment with a dietician.

Over all although the staff are very busy they were plesent and helpful.

We do have information leaflets about the procedure you had and general information about nutrition and diet following an operation, so I am very sorry that we did not provide this to you before your discharge home. The Ward Manager will discuss discharge planning with the nursing team, including the feedback you have left about your experience. We will look at how we can ensure that we give people the right amount of time to ask questions and provide written information as well, and monitor our progress.

If you would like to get in touch with me directly, then I will make sure that we provide advice and answer any questions that you might have.

Regards
