"Took time to allay my fears"

About: Mater Hospital / Day Procedure Unit (DPU)

(as a service user),

I attended the Day Procedure Unit at the Mater Hospital in Belfast at the beginning of January 2022. Throughout the day I was looked after fantastically.  The procedure was explained to me beforehand by S/N Heather, who took the time to allay my pre-procedure fears and anxieties. Heather was fantastic from start to finish. During the procedure Dr Boyle and S/N Heyburn continued to chat me through it and again, I could not have asked for anything more. Once in recovery the whole nursing team were completely professional and caring. Thanks to everyone in DPU

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience with us in the Mater DPU. Having any investigation or procedure can be very stressful indeed and I am sure this was a very worrying time for both you and all those close to you.

Heather and her team in DPU are focused on delivering the best standards of care and they were very much focused on looking after you holistically at this very stressful time. I am just delighted to hear you were reassured and the whole experience was not too upsetting for you. Just having clear explanations and friendly faces can alleviate so much anxiety.

Thank you for sharing and We hope you continue to keep well.

Best Wishes

Bernie

Hi

My name is Catriona McGarvey and I am the Interim Service Manager for MIH/BCH Day Procedure Unit, Theatres and DOS.

Thank you for taking the time to provide this lovely feedback. As Bernie has said having a procedure or investigation can be a very stressful and worrying time. I'm really delighted to hear about your positive experience and the care you received by the MIH DPU team, they really are a fantastic team!! I will ensure this is shared with Heather, Kim Heyburn, Dr Boyle and the rest of the team involved in your care.

Kind Regards
