"Plastic surgery clinic - they really are stars"

About: Queen Margaret Hospital / Minor Injuries Unit Queen Margaret Hospital / Plastic Surgery & Burns

(as a relative),

My partner had a particularly nasty fall in our back garden. He is 81 years old and,as with many older people, very thin skin. The resulting injury was pretty horrific, he had ripped his arm open from his knuckles, all the way up his forearm to his elbow. Obviously this necessitated an emergency dash to the minor injury unit at Queen Margaret's in Dunfermline and a subsequent plastic surgery assessment at Ninewells hospital in Dundee two days later. We now have weekly visits back to the plastic surgery team at Queen Margaret's in Dunfermline who have been an amazing trio of nurses, treating my partner with kindness, sympathy and efficiency. They are happy to listen to his many stories whilst they work away on his new dressing and handle him with patience and care trying their hardest to make the renewed dressings as comfortable as possible for him. They really are the stars representing exactly what the NHS stand for and we can't rate them highly enough.

Dear Knitting nanny,

Thank you very much for taking the time to provide the trio with such incredibly kind and complimentary feedback. You and your partner have had a bit of a traumatic time since his fall in the garden. You are 100% correct that the skin in older people is thin, fragile and VERY easily damaged. We see these injuries in our clinics more often than we would like.

I am glad that girls have listened to you both and have been kind, patient and understanding when deciding what treatment is right for your partner. I hope he is more comfortable now and is getting closer to being healed.

I have shared your comments with the team and they are delighted to have received them in such a challenging time across the entire NHS.

We hope to see you in clinic soon to wish you all the best wishes for Xmas and the New Year.

Kind regards

Lynn Coyne
