About: University Hospital Wishaw / Gastroenterology / General Medicine (Ward 5)

(as a relative),

My Aunt was recently admitted to University Hospital Wishaw in Ward 5. Her care was varied from different staff being attentive & responding to her needs to making her feel she was being a nuisance for asking for help.

Overhearing the nursing staff & especially one particular nurse (who should be more professional) talking about certain patients in a demeaning manner also made her feel uncomfortable!

The clinical support workers & the domestic staff on day shift went out of their way to listen & help her and we all appreciated that & thank them!

Dear Flowerpuff

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your experience of your aunt's recent admission to Ward 5 at University Hospital Wishaw.

Firstly, I would like to apologise to your aunt for the mixed care she received from nursing staff and also for the inappropriate comments she overheard from staff, which made her feel uncomfortable. During an inpatient stay in hospital, we certainly do not want our patients to feel as though they are a nuisance to staff, although I note your thanks to the clinical support workers and domestic staff, who were very kind towards her.

I’m really pleased you took the time to leave your feedback, as we want to make things better for patients and you are helping us by leaving your story, so thank you for doing so. Please be assured that your valuable feedback will be shared with the Senior Nurse and Senior Charge Nurse responsible for Ward 5.
