On 10/06/08 I was admitted as an emergency for abdominal pain, referred from the Dr. at Stroud hospital. After the brief initial confusion as to where I should go. I was directed to ward 3a. What a magnificent group of people.I was immediately reassured and it was explained to me what would happen. Bloods and other tests were done quickly and efficiently. The consultant Miss Rodd arrived promptly and explained what was happening and the conseqences of any operation. I am an obese person and knew there was some risk involved. Even when Miss Rodd was chastising me for my weight, it was done in a friendly and concerned manner. Her bedside manner was excellent. I was told that I would be kept in for bed rest and hopefully the pain would subside. Alas, not so a C.T. scan was next on the agenda. This also was not to be as the results of the blood test meant an operation was a must. The anaesthetist arrived and was very thorough in explaining the procedure, answering the few questions I had. During this time the ward staff were brilliant and I felt very secure in my enviroment.I should state at this point that I have a mild phobia about hospitals but this dissolved in such a caring enviroment. On to theatre and had a good joke with surgery and porter staff. The aside I made about woman drivers after watching a female surgeon wheeling a trolley came back and bit me in the bum when it turned out she would be working on me. A chuckle for everyone involved. After surgery I awoke to pain from the catheter insertion. The recovery nurse, Alex, was swift and efficient in dealing with this. Up to the ward again and caring staff awaited me again. For the aftercare no complaints. I would like to thank Katie, Anne, Sally, Mike, Andrew, Jelena, Daniel and all the other ward staff that I didnt get the name of. Also my undying gratitude to Miss Rodd and her surgical team. 1 week on and everything is still fine with the wound.
