Once we went into adult services, the only respite offered to my child, who is mentally alert and completely verbal, was use of a nursing home.
They are nearly 30 yrs old and have multi complex needs and requires 24 hr care.
They uses a powered wheelchair, controlled by with two fingers, and a Bi pap ventilator to breathe and needs a cough assist machine to cough.
We do not feel that that a nursing home is a suitable form of respite
We have suggested that four times a year 24 hr care via care provider to be brought to our home
We have not had respite in nearly 10 yrs.
We think there is now an urgency about this. As his carer, I am unwell and need a break.
"Inappropriate respite provision"
