"Causeway ED and kind hospital staff"

About: Causeway Hospital / Accident & Emergency

(as a parent/guardian),

I attended the hospital late in the evening with my 21 month old son. I had been directed there by Dr on call but when I got there they were not there. There had been some confusion about what hospital I should have attended. A very kind porter called Eugene, helped me by contacting the bed manager who said to bring me and my son down to ED. Eugene chatted to my son and me, reassuring us both as I was very upset by everything. He made sure we got to the ED desk and checked in. We were then seen by a lovely nurse who trialed us and then an equally lovely and friendly Dr and nurse (Kenna?). They were really thorough and understood how tired both my son and I were as by this point it was around midnight. They were patient and caring and brought my son juice, a Teddy and then an ice lolly. They also offered me something to eat when they realised I was pregnant. They couldn't have been more attentive, despite ED being very busy and the obvious extra pressure of the pandemic. Thank you for such a wonderful service.

My name is Natalie McLaughlin and I am the Assistant Clinical Services Manager of Causeway ED.

Sorry to hear your 21 month old son was poorly enough to require medical attention. I can sympathise with how you must have been feeling; anxious, worried and stressed, and then to arrive and no one there.

Your feedback was really touching and heart warming, as it has just reinforced how caring and compassionate Causeway staff are. They like every other person working in the Health service, have been under immense and relentless pressure since the beginning of the pandemic. However, they continue to ensure patients and their carers/realtives are treated in a friendly and understanding way.

We cannot thank out staff enough for how they continue to meet the needs of the service. For continuing to smile, and working together as a site, to ensure our patients, and their carers/relatives, have a positive experience when requring our services.

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback, it will be well received by our staff and teams. We really do appreciate it.

Best wishes

Natalie McLaughlin
