"I truly cannot believe all of these 5 star…"

About: The Tunbridge Wells Hospital

As daughter to of a poorly mother who has been in and out of Pembury since July 2021- to date.

She has been to A&E, to numerous wards and currently on ward 22 This has been the worst experience I have ever encountered. The nurses are rude, incompetent and leave their patients in a dire state. My mum is 90 years old, you can call and call the ward they never answer. I had a call this morning at 6am and told she had taken a fall (she is completely immobile) and was found on the floor between her bed and bathroom. She had a nose bleed and that this was a spinal turmour that nobody has ever told us about. I was promised a call to let me know how she was, nobody called back. I then called the hospital, evenutally put through to someone and told that the nurse would be 2 minutes. I sat on the phone for 18 minutes, not on hold but listening to all the conversations about other patients, their dobs, their medications, not great GDPR.

I have called anoter 8 times, no answer. I called the main switchboard, they stayed on the call with me as I am so worried about my Mum, nurse answers. I am now told I have to wait for a Dr to tell me about the Spinal Tumour, but it was fine for someone to spring this on me at 6am this morning. I was told to complain to PALS if I have a problem. I already did that, when I told you not to discharge my mum as she has been in hospital for 3 weeks and had no food, you promised to put meals in wheels in motion, of course you didn't and a 90 year old women was left without food. Your response, sorry we made a mistake. You sent her home on paracetomol when she had been on morphine but wondered why she couldn't cope with pain. You take my number down, I am her next of kin, I have told you so many times, but you continue to use the wrong number, calling a man about my Mum. Until he phoned and complained.

I work in customer services, I have the right to complain, but in the NHS you are protected, there is no way you complain, we are constantly being told to be kind to our staff. When will the staff be kind to relatives of dying patients, when will they show empathy.

I have started to record the things happening in this hospital, I witnessed one nurse going from patient to patient checking blood pressure and writing it on a napkin. I arrived to see my Mum sitting in the dark, TV on but the volume off, no lights and she was sitting in her urine & faeces.

I have been polite, I have followed the rules, but this is the most uncaring bunch of people I have ever met in my life.

The NHS are busy because they are completely and utterly disorganised, it is a shambles. I will have another night of worry as no-one will speak to me, and because i raised my voice to get an answer - the nurse hung up on me POWER.

I hope from the bottom of my heart that the nurses on ward 22 (yes I have your names) are looked after when they are old in the way they are looking after her. OTS are great by the way!

Thank you very much for taking the time to provide your review. I am very sorry to read that your experience and that of your mother has been negative on a number of counts and from your comment I note that your mother is still in Tunbridge Wells hospital. Please could I ask you to contact the PALS team on 01892 632953 or by e mail at mtw-tr.palsoffice@nhs.net quoting reference 65077.
