"Prompt and responsive service"

About: Daisy Hill Hospital / Physiotherapy

(as a relative),

My  Mother developed severe sciatica 2 weeks ago. I was extremely worried about what was causing the pain and how it was impacting on her mobility to the point where she was struggling to walk. I was aware that there was a self referral pathway to physiotherapy and so I decided to try it. The form was straight forward to fill in on line and prompted me to fill bits that I had omitted in error before I could post it. Two days later my Mother received a call to validate some of the information and then the following day she was was contacted by a physiotherapist.

They asked her a number of screening questions, gave some general advice as to what to do if things deteriorated further and said she would be added to an urgent list. The following day the central booking unit contacted her and offered an appointment for late December.

My Mother and I were delighted with this prompt response. It was very reassuring to speak to a practitioner  get advice and reassurance and to receive a confirmation letter in the post regarding the appointment.

Dear Pando

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience about the physiotherapy self referral pathway in the SHSCT. Back pain and loss of mobility can be frightening and I am pleased that both you and your mother have felt reassured with both the advice and then the appointment that the musculoskeletal physiotherapy service have offered her. I wish her well for her physiotherapy rehabilitation.
