(1) Note rapid and effective response of ambulance after midnight to country village 10 miles from hospital. Ambulance crew found patient naked and semi-consccious on upper floor of house. Rapidly secured, lifted and carried to ambulance and then to Horton Hospital, where immediately admitted without any triage delay. A very smooth and professional operation.
(2) On arrival at Horton Hospital at 1.20am seen immediately by medical team led by a doctor. Diagnosis (pneumonia + fast atrial fibrillation) and treatment (high flow oxygen + continuous positive airway pressure + antibiotics + digoxin for atrial fibrillation) immediate and effective. The medical intervention was immediate and comprehensive, notwithstanding the time of night.
(3) Following admission to emergency ward, three weeks of medical + nursing care of very high standard. Standards of diet and general cleanliness high. Excellent attention paid to resumption of muscular control + standing and walking. The contrast between this ward and the general ward was striking.
