"Unprofessional, disrespectful service"

About: Crisis Mental Health / Single point of access team (SPA) & Emotional Wellbeing Service (EWS) Highly Specialist Services / Sheffield adult autism and neurodevelopmental services (SAANS)

(as a service user),

I found Netherthorpe House to be unprofessional and disrespectful to both a vulnerable adult with mental health/strong suicidal thoughts/autism, and a worker whom is helping me regarding autism.

After a meeting with the worker via SAANS, I was made promises that were not kept. e.g promising to contact an autism worker for more helpful information (made in front of 2 witnesses). They never made contact and failed to answer my repeated desperate enquirers as to why they had not done so in 5 months? Also, I urgently requested they contact my GP for up to date, relevant information, whom also was waiting for a contact about my situation/mental state; again they failed to do so and again never told me why they had not, ignoring my repeated questions in my emails.

They were fully aware of the dangerous situation I am in, and how Netherthorpe House approximately 2 years ago again failed to help me after many many months; only suggesting IAPTS in which, had they followed my GP's information that IAPTS was not an option they would not have suggested it; wasting my time and building hopes up.

They did the same, after 5 months -  just came up with IAPTS.  Had they contacted the GP and the Autism support, they would have realised it was not an option..

They were fully aware, as an autism psychologist had been in contact with Netherthorpe House a few times to inform them IAPTS was not an option, and as a vunerable person could not be let down again or passed around again. Also SAANS gave information to Netherthorpe about working with someone with autism in relation to the therapy that they would choose for me in the coming months (not IAPTS).

However Netherthorpe failed to do any of this and have failed to take any responsibility, and so have made my situation worse regarding self harming and serious melt downs

Also, the worker suggested they would sort a community support worker.  After continuously trying to find out how this was going I was told at the end of almost 5 months from the initial meeting it could not be done etc; however, it had been sorted out without the worker and I had a meeting/phone call with a CSW in the meantime. Netherthorpe failed to answer my question as to why it took 5 months to tell me this and what they thought about them failing to do what had achieved what they said was not possible; again no response to that enquiry.

The worker continually ignored my repeated questions, avoiding any responsibility and therefore liability even though I informed them as to how their behaviour  had only added to my self harm and mental state. Surely common sense and good practice would indicate that other professionals heavily involved with helpful up to date information would be a valuable asset to contact in order to provide a better service to a vunerable adult;

Now I have no hope at all, after more than 2 years of trying to get help.

Incompetent, unprofessional, disrespectful and failed me again.

I am very sorry that you have had this experience with SHSC. From your story it would appear that your main issues are around input from Netherthorpe House. However if you also have specific issues with your support from SAANS please contact the Team Manager 01142716964.
